New resource in English and Spanish: Guidelines and recommendations to strategically plan for Extreme Wildfire Events

A new resource developed by the EWED project has been published on the project’s website. ‘D2.2 Guidelines and recommendations to strategically plan for Extreme Wildfire Events’ provides practical guidance for organisations working to address the challenges posed by Extreme Wildfire Events (EWEs).

The report shares key knowledge, operational processes, and tools that can support more effective preparation and response to extreme wildfires. It highlights the importance of analysing historical wildfire events through geodatabases of past fire perimeters, managing uncertainty during complex fire scenarios, and establishing specialised teams to collect real-time atmospheric and fire behaviour data. The document also emphasises the use of modelling and analysis tools such as the CLASS model and the Wildfire Data Portal to improve understanding of wildfire–atmosphere interactions. In addition, it promotes international training and knowledge exchange between fire practitioners and scientists to build a shared understanding and interoperable language for dealing with EWEs.

The resource is available in both English and Spanish and is intended to support organisations, practitioners, and researchers working on wildfire preparedness and response.
