The team
The Wildfire Data Portal, originally developed through the EWED project, is now maintained and further enhanced through ODET (Open Decision-Making System for Enhancing Europe’s Preparedness and Response Capacities to ExTreme Wildfires), which brings together fire and rescue services, research institutions, non-profit organisations and civil-protection practitioners, combining scientific expertise with real-world operational experience to tackle extreme wildfires.

ODET Partners
ODET brings together a diverse consortium of fire and rescue services, research institutions, and non‑profit organisations, combining scientific expertise with real‑world operational experience to tackle extreme wildfires. This mix ensures that ODET’s tools and knowledge are both robust and usable in practice.
- Pau Costa Foundation: A global non-profit organisation based in Spain that focuses on wildfire management and prevention from the perspective of fire ecology at the international level. Within ODET, it leads project management, communication and stakeholder engagement activities.
- Catalan Fire and Rescue Service: The public agency responsible for fire prevention, fire suppression and rescue operations in Catalonia, Spain. ODET benefits from the expertise of its specialist wildfire unit, GRAF (Forestry Action Group), which works on the prevention and management of wildfires. They are recognised contributors to the improvement of wildfire analysis globally, and pioneers in the collection of atmospheric data on wildfires. The organisation leads ODET’s work on data collection for the decision-making system and the continued development of the Wildfire Data Portal.
- Wageningen University & Research: A public university based in the Netherlands, dedicated to exploring the potential of nature to improve quality of life through education and research. Within ODET, its Meteorology and Air Quality Group contributes expertise on the atmosphere near the Earth’s surface and its interactions with land, ecosystems and the environment. The organisation leads ODET’s work on applied fire science and tools.
- Netherlands Institute for Public Safety: A public institute focused on research, education, information and support that provides knowledge in the areas of contingency planning, crisis response and firefighting strategies to contribute to the safety and resilience of the Netherlands. Within ODET, it leads training and capacity-building activities to help emergency organisations better prepare for and respond to extreme wildfires.
- D.R.E.Am. Italia: A cooperative working in engineering, forestry and environmental management that supports sustainable land and forest management through technical expertise, training and applied projects, including wildfire prevention and fire‑management capacity building. It supports all project’s tasks.
ODET Practitioner Group
The ODET Practitioner Group (PG) brings together experienced professionals and organisations from the wildfire and civil‑protection community who work close to real‑world operations. By contributing practical insights, operational needs and lessons learned, the PG helps ensure that ODET’s data, tools and training are grounded in reality and truly fit for use.
- Hellenic Fire Service: The public agency for fire and rescue services in Greece. It participates in dealing with any emergency that arises in times of peace or war, and in cooperation with the competent authorities and services. It also contributes to ensuring the civil protection of the country.
- Grenland Fire and Rescue Service: A fire department that prevents and combats fires and other acute accidents in six municipalities in the Grenland district of Norway.
- Corporación Nacional Forestal: CONAF is Chile’s forestry corporation, a private-law entity under the Ministry of Agriculture, responsible for implementing forest policy, promoting the forestry sector, and carrying out wildfire prevention and suppression, as well as ecosystem conservation and management.
- Emergency Response Coordination Centre: The European Commission’s operational hub for coordinating disaster response under the Union Civil Protection Mechanism, facilitating information exchange and mutual assistance among participating states.
- LaMMA: A public consortium between the Tuscany Region and the Italian National Research Council that provides scientific and technical expertise in meteorology, climatology, environmental monitoring and modelling. Through research, forecasting services and environmental data analysis, it supports risk management, civil protection and informed decision-making.
