Pont de Vilomara

General information

Category
Wildfire
Fire classification
Resilient PyroCu
Country
Catalonia, Spain
Year
2022

The Pont de Vilomara wildfire exhibited a rapid initial growth rate, reaching approximately 100 hectares in the first hour. This early expansion demonstrated the significant potential for the fire to spread. The prevailing drought conditions and challenging meteorological circumstances present additional challenges to the efforts to extinguish the fire. The rapid spread of the fire (maximum ROS around 5 km/h and BR of 600 ha/h) was caused by pyroconvective phenomena (Resilient PyroCu), which were sustained until late at night, with the arrival of the fire in the non-forest area. The fire had a significant impact on the WUI areas situated along the path of propagation.
