The fire started due to a burning car next to a unharvested cereal field. The continuity of these cereal fields, coupled with their high fuel load, resulted in the fire spreading quickly and intensely. Moreover, the incursion of the sea breeze caused the direction of the fire to change. The wildfire produced a dense convective plume, which was accurately measured by radiosondes.
