The Ede wildfire started due to military practice in the heatland with a smoke grenade. After showing only some backing fire behaviour for some time, the fire spotted accross the road and was able to make runs with the wind. The fire spotted on large distances for Dutch standards, allowing it to make two runs of 6 km/h. Attempts to stop the head of the fire proved unsuccesful and resulted in a fire truck burned, among others. The fire’s head stopped due to a discontinuity in fuel within the military base that it impacted. There was only one spotfire within the military base.
